A not-for-profit Organisation, working together for the benefit of Our local Community
           Presidents Message 2012
The Calliope Campdraft committee completed a successful year in 2011 with a well-supported, full programme campdraft held in the second weekend of July. The arctic weather we experienced tested the faithful but people turned up in strong numbers and filled every last draft nomination. The campdraft raised much needed money to support our charities with a donation of $1,000 to St Johns Ambulance and $1,000 to Blue Care. Also, the local SES manned the gate on the campdraft weekend directing traffic and taking a gold coin donation entry fee. This money was donated back to the SES by the campdraft committee as thanks for their tireless efforts. It is with great honour that the Calliope Campdraft Committee has been successful enough to be able to support these wonderful community organisations.
The 2011 campdraft saw a total of 510 first round runs from the seasoned Open competitors down the dedicated up and coming Juniors. The outstanding cattle were once again loaned by our most valued supporters in the Neill-Ballantine family of Galloway Plains, the Wilson family of Calliope Station and the Paish family of Nagoorin. Brendan Barlow Civil & Piping came out in full support again to be the major sponsor of the campdraft. We were blessed to have repeat sponsors for our draft and through the efforts of our committee members, were able to secure new sponsors as well. The campdraft attracted competitors from distances near and far. The Maiden campdraft was taken out by Paul Stone of Baralaba, the Novice saw lady rider Tanya White of Taroom take out the blue ribbon and the honours in the Calliope Gold Goblet Open campdraft went to Craig Radke of Mundubbera. Mert Graham of Kabra kept the crowd well informed and entertained as the announcer for the entire weekend. If any complaints were voiced, it was thanks to the sub zero temperatures but thanks to the Calliope Polocrosse Committee and the Calliope Pony Club operating the bar and catering respectively, the chills were kept at bay and nobody went home hungry or thirsty.
2012 for the Calliope Campdraft Committee will begin at a bustling pace with the date set for the 4th Annual Gold Goblet Campdraft as the 5th and 6th of May. Major sponsors are already pledging their support and plans have been put in place to once again take advantage of the services of Clay Cini and Campdraft Central for nominations. Discussions have taken place to improve our camp and arena with some of the greatest campdraft minds pooling their knowledge to create a facility unequal to any other… Paradise move over… Calliope is coming!
Remember our motto – Get Hot On The Heels Of A Heifer at Calliope!
Sincerely
Doc Ryan

Barlow Civil & Piping Calliope Gold Goblet Campdraft

The Barlow Civil & Piping Calliope Gold Goblet was held on the 9th & 10th July at the Neill- Ballantyne Race Course Reserve. The Calliope Real Estate Maiden Draft kicked of the programme on Saturday Morning with a chilly 6.30am start. Brothers John and Barney Davidson set the fashion scene with matching gloves and scarves which raised a few comments among the competitors and was brought up a few times over the week end by the comical announcer Mert Graham. Paul Stone and Double Up took the maiden honours. Next was the 1st Round of the Percy Streeter Memorial Open Draft where Craig Radke set the pace with a sizzling 91 point run on Concert, then to back it up with another 91 in the second round on Sunday and an 88 in the final to win the event by a clear margin from Darren Bales on Selene. Saturday Afternoon was time for the youngsters to take to the arena with Hayden Zahl on Little Billy collecting first place in the juvenile and Jett Graham on Legs Shadow taking out the junior draft.
Saturday Night was time to kick up a bit dust after a great meal put on by the Calliope pony cub washed down by the odd beverage served by the Calliope polocross committee. An auction was held during the evening with few items proving to be very popular with the western competitors giving them the chance to sample the local seafood on offer. As the chill began to creep in a lot snuck away to warmth of there trucks as the rest partied on.
Sunday morning was just as fresh as the previous with the ground temperature being minus 2 but sooned warmed up as did the action in the Green Steel Novice Draft with Tanya White on Whisper taking line honours. Local Craig McLaughlin has a great weekend taking out the Best local Cut out with a Run Off with Jim McAdam, also winning the Highest Scoring Local Maiden Horse/Rider Combination and the best Registered Local Horse. A special thanks must go to Clay Cini from Campdraft Central who made the business side of the draft run smoothly from nominations to draws, payouts and invoicing, the sms/e-mails of run draws and the list goes on, I strongly recommend that committees look into Campdraft Central to use as valuable tool to take the stress out of running a campdraft.
Overall the weekend was a great success but this could not have been possible if not for the valued cattle donors & sponsors, hardworking committee members & volunteers. The committee would like to thank the following cattle donors The Neill-Ballantyne Family Galloway Plains and The Wilson Family Calliope Station and the Major Sponsors Barlow Piping and Civil, Coates Hire, Wise Supplies, Limestone Clothing and CampDraft Central
